The 16th Annual Conference of the Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists (IAPM), Madhya Pradesh Chapter, commenced on Friday at the New Academic Block. The event, marked by an intensive pre-conference workshop, focused on the transformative role of modern diagnostic techniques in treating complex ailments. The workshop’s primary objective is to equip young pathologists with hands-on experience in advanced diagnostic tools. Dr. Sanjay Totade, Head of Pathology Department, described pathology as the “backbone of medicine,” noting that the integration of new technologies will significantly enhance both the speed and accuracy of patient care. Dean Dr. Navneet Saxena emphasized the necessity of research and adequate funding to provide a new direction for future generations of medical professionals.
 
The workshop was structured into three pivotal technical sessions addressing critical areas of modern medicine. Talking about Hematology and Molecular Pathology, Dr. Avinash Gupta (Varanasi) and Dr. Mayur Parihar (TATA Memorial Centre, Kolkata) explained about early and precise detection of hematolymphoid neoplasms (blood cancers) through a pattern-based approach using flow cytometry, cytogenetics and molecular pathology. Dr. Atin Singhai from KGMU Lucknow discussed the utility of Immunofluorescence in identifying complex kidney and skin diseases. While Dr. Seema Dayal from UPUMS Saifai (Etawa)said that Liquid-Based Cytology (LBC) offers superior accuracy compared to traditional methods, representing a significant advancement in preventative oncology for women. The formal inauguration of the conference is scheduled for Saturday, to be presided over by Dr. BK Khandelwal, Vice-Chancellor, Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University.
