A grand Makar Sankranti Festival and ‘Shakha Sangam’ was organised under the auspices of Jabalpur Mahanagar of Rashtra Sevika Samiti at MLB School Ground, on Friday.
Swayamsevikas of 19 shakhas of the city enthusiastically attended the programme. The event witnessed the presence of Lieutenant Colonel and national thinker Himanshi Singh as the chief guest while Vand Pramukh Sanchalika Shantakaji addressed the gathering as the main speaker. Sumedha Pal, Prant Karyavah Mahakaushal Prant was also present on the dais.
Addressing the gathering, Lt Col Himanshi Singh described the Rashtra Sevika Samiti as a “Yajnashala of Nation-Building”. She said individuals are recognised by their deeds, not by their lineage.
Emphasising the role of women in nation-building, she said strong character and fearless women are essential for a strong nation, as the family forms the core of society and culture is deeply rooted in it. She added that women have the power to shape entire generations and must always be ready for sacrifice in the larger national interest. Keynote speaker Pramukh Sanchalika Shantakka said that shakha activities are systematically conducted to inculcate values and discipline. She stressed that nation-building begins with individual development and that shakhas teach how to lead a disciplined and virtuous life.
She highlighted the three duties of a family, purusharth (effort), procreation and social responsibility, and said duties must be performed even at the cost of life, while earning through unrighteous means should be strictly avoided. She further underlined the importance of lifelong discipline, organised work culture, good conduct and compassion towards animals and nature. Quoting Swami Vivekananda, she said the world is one family and harmony beyond caste and language divisions is essential for global peace.
The speakers also remembered Mausiji, the founder of Rashtra Sevika Samiti and highlighted the relevance of Indian scriptures and cultural heritage. Saints, social leaders and prominent citizens were present on the occasion. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ritu Singh.
