The future of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) might be decided by Generation Z (Gen Z) in coming days as political parties showed faith in them and gave tickets to half-a-dozen Gen Z candidates in different Prabhags for this upcoming municipal elections. The political parties introduced many new faces as candidates and Gen Z candidates are also among them. At least six candidates who are going to contest the civic polls are below the age of 29 years. The candidates are educated and contesting the election to serve the people by addressing their issues.
 
Keeping the importance of Gen Z in mind, all parties are giving chance to young candidates to attract more Gen Z voters in this election. In Nagpur, in this election, more than 4.5 lakh Gen Z voters are going to exercise their franchise and these Gen Z candidates may attract them most. Laxmi Hattithele, a 21 years old candidate from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is the youngest candidate in this election. Laxmi got BJP’s ticket from Prabhag No 5A in Satranjipura Zone (Zone 7). Laxmi is also the poorest candidate among the list of 997 candidates who are contesting the election. Laxmi had disclosed her annual income of Rs 9,824 and Rs 2.7 lakh as her annual family income .
 
Similarly, Payal Sahu, is second youngest candidate, is 22 year-old and contesting the polls on Shiv Sena (UBT) ticket. Payal is contesting the polls from Prabhag No 9B. Durgeshwari Kailash Kosekar, a 24 years old candidate of BJP, is contesting the election on Shiv Sena’s ticket. Five of BJP’s candidates are contesting on Shiv Sena ticket in this election and Durgeshwari is also among them. Durgeshwari is a civil engineer by profession and she is contesting the election from Prabhag No 24A. Shoaib Khalid, a 24 year old candidate, will contest the election from Prabhag No 6B on Indian National Congress (INC) ticket. Congress also showed faith in 25-year-old Harish Gwalbanshi from Prabhag No 12C whereas 25-year-old Sahida Sadaf Ansari got the ticket from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) from Prabhag No 8C. Kritika Yogesh Gonnade, a 26-year-old candidate from Shiv Sena(Shinde) will contest the election from Prabhag No 8A.
