A three-day investigation into the mysterious death of a college student, who allegedly fell from the second floor of a private ‘stay-home’ facility, has taken a dramatic turn. The Chunabhatti police on Friday registered a case of murder against the victim’s friend, Kapil Tushar, after forensic evidence suggested the girl was physically assaulted and subsequently pushed off the terrace during a violent altercation.

According to investigating officer Vinod Kumar Panthi, the accused attempted to cover up the crime by posing as a concerned bystander. CCTV footage from JP Hospital shows Tushar arriving in an e-rickshaw with the victim, Priya, and rushing her to the emergency ward. However, as soon as the doctors declared her ‘brought dead,’ Tushar was seen fleeing the premises, leaving the body behind. Further investigation revealed that prior to the fatal fall, Tushar had smashed Priya’s mobile phone to prevent her from seeking help.

Priya had left her home around 10:30 am on Wednesday, ostensibly to attend college. Instead, she visited Tushar at a private stay-home in Chunabhatti, where he worked as a caretaker. The duo spent approximately two and a half hours together before the situation turned violent around 12:15 pm, leading to Priya’s fall from the terrace. The investigation into their background revealed that Tushar had been an acquaintance of the family for seven years, having previously lived as a tenant near Priya’s residence.

Their relationship reportedly intensified after he moved to Chunabhatti post-pandemic. The preliminary post-mortem report has provided chilling details of the assault. Medical examiners found multiple bruise marks on the victim’s face, consistent with being punched. The cause of death was attributed to severe internal injuries to the head and chest sustained from the impact of the fall. The police are currently awaiting the final forensic report for further confirmation.

The victim’s family has levelled serious allegations against the accused, claiming he had been stalking and harassing Priya for over a year. “He had threatened to kill her eighteen months ago and was constantly exerting pressure on her regarding a personal matter,” a family member told the police. The Bhopal Police have formed multiple teams to apprehend Tushar. Special units have been dispatched to Khandwa to conduct raids at suspected hideouts.
