As the campaigning mode ahead of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections is nearing its end, the public anger over collapsing civic amenities spilled onto the streets with the direct confrontation with the former corporators who are busy campaigning. Nagpur will witness civic elections after a gap of about nine years on January 15. Facing various civic issues for long, public vented ire on former corporators who were seen struggling to give answers to citizens’ questions on various civic issues.

In Prabhag No 17A, Shraddha Chutele, a BJP candidate after the party gave the ticket in place of her husband and former corporator Vijay Chutele, was confronted by local residents in the Prabhag when she was campaigning with her husband and supporters. The local residents raised questions over poor roads and garbage issues in the locality. They also stopped her from campaigning in the locality as the ex-corporator Vijay Chutele failed to fulfill the promises he had made then. Similarly, in Prabhag No 17D, former Congress corporator Manoj Sable, who joined the BJP recently, and is contesting on the party’s ticket, is facing stiff resistance during the door-to-door campaigning.

The other day, when Sable entered one of the localities, a group of women residents stopped him and refused to let him proceed further in the locality. They opposed his entry in the locality for betraying voters on civic issues. Apart from BJP, Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar) candidates also are facing resistance during campaigning for the same reasons. Former Indian National Congress (INC) corporator Manoj Sangole, who joined NCP(AP), recently, also was confronted by local residents for not fulfilling the promises he made in previous civic polls. The residents blocked his entry to the locality for not fulfilling the demands of road construction and proper sanitation in the locality by the ex-corporator. Similar incidents were witnessed in Gulshan Nagar, Kalamna, Bharatwada and Pardi areas where residents confronted the poll candidates of different parties while they were campaigning.
