IN A swift action, police arrested two accused who were
attempting to break into a jewellery shop in Kailash Nagar,
Housing Board, Bhilai, during
the early hours of
Wednesday. Both
accused were arrested and later sent to
judicial remand at
Central Jail, Durg.
Police sources
informed that the
accused were identified as Sanjay Thakur
(24), a resident of Saja village in
Bemetara district, and Ashish
Verma (28), a resident of Gandai
in KCG district.
The complainant, Gopal
Chaurasia, a resident of Housing
Board, Bhilai, reported that he
runs a jewellery shop named
Chaurasia Jewellers located near
Mohni Mangal in Kailash Nagar.
He had closed the shop at around
9.30 pm on January 13 and left
for home. At about 4 am on
January 14, neighbours alerted
him over the phone after hearing suspicious noises coming
from the shop, following which
he immediately informed the
Jamul police. Acting promptly
on the information, a
police team rushed
to the spot.
On noticing the
police vehicle, two
suspects attempted
to flee but were
chased and apprehended. Initially,
both tried to mislead
the police, but during sustained
questioning, they confessed to
attempting burglary by breaking
the wall of the jewellery shop. The
police recovered burglary tools
including a crowbar and an iron
rod, from their possession. A case
has been registered against the
accused under sections 331(4),
305 and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya
Sanhita (BNS).
