THE New Year began on a lively note at Maitri Bagh in Bhilai, as thousands of tourists flocked to the popular park on January 1 to celebrate
the first day of 2026. Visitors arrived in large numbers not only from Bhilai
and Durg but also from several nearby districts, turning the zoo and picnic spot into a vibrant hub of activity throughout the day.
Tourists enjoyed exploring the zoo, watching lions, bears, deer, monkeys and other wildlife species, which especially thrilled children. Many
families and groups of friends chose Maitri Bagh to welcome the New
Year, spending quality time amid greenery and pleasant weather. Boating
emerged as one of the biggest attractions, with visitors taking full advantage of the cool and comfortable climate.
The mini train ride also remained
a favourite among children. Adding to the festive experience, the Bhilai
Steel Plant management introduced several new infrastructure and service initiatives at Maitri Bagh. A major highlight was the launch of a

The food court offers a variety of popular items, such as chow mein, paneer chilli, pasta, and sandwiches. To ensure quick service and smooth crowd management, six separate food counters have been set up.
With tourists pouring in from across the State, the park
remained bustling all day. The Maitri Bagh management
made special arrangements to handle the crowd, while the
police department deployed additional personnel to ensure
safety and order.
