HEALTH services at Netaji
Subhash Chandra Bose Medical
College have reached a critical
impasse as ward boys and sanitation workers have officially
entered an indefinite strike. The
protest, sparked by administrative failures, has left the hospital facility ina state of neglect,
raising urgent concerns regarding patient safety and hygiene.
The protestors have cited the
non-payment of salaries for several consecutive months as the
primary reason for the work stoppage. Employees expressed that
lack of income has rendered
them unable to meet basic living expenses. Additionally, the
staff has raised allegations
regarding the mismanagement
of Provident Fund (PF) accounts,
claiming that deductions have
been irregular or non-existent
for years.
The cessation of cleaning services has led to a visible
deterioration of the hospital environment. Most alarmingly, the
strike has created a vacuum in
specialised patient care. As in
absence of trained ward attendants, ventilator and other lifesaving medical apparatus were
handled by unauthorized and
untrained personnel, which
may lead to increasing risk of
mortality among critical care
patients. As of now, the hospital administration has yet to
reach a formal resolution with
the striking workers. Families
of patients remain in a state
of distress, calling upon state
authorities to intervene and
restore essential services
before the situation escalates
further.
