As it is clear that Nagpur will get a woman Mayor, political hustle has begun in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Though the name of new Mayor will be chosen by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis once he lands in India from Davos, the internal meetings of small units in the party’s city wing have already started.

In Nagpur, several names were doing the rounds and people in groups were discussing as to who was eligible, who was experienced. The debate on the reservation too was witnessed on various whatsapp group that the women who contested from the Woman (open) category are the only contenders. It was also made clear by some experts that any elected woman is eligible to become Mayor. Meanwhile, senior leader of Congress Vijay Wadettiwar, naming one corporator, levelled allegations against Fadnavis that the latter managed to get Woman (open) category for Nagpur. Wadettiwar also alleged that Fadnavis wanted to favour a particular candidate. Some people on social media criticised Wadettiwar for his allegations as the draw was conducted in front of all and could not be managed. At the end of the day, curiosity reigned supreme. People said that, as Fadnavis was unpredictable and Nagpur may get someone as Mayor whose name might not have been thought of by many.
