In Chandrapur Bureau
The Mayoral post in Chandrapur Municipal Corporation (CMC) has been reserved for OBC (woman) and with this, the Congress and BJP leaders have started hectic activity to grab the post.
In the recent CMC elections, BJP won 23 seats while the Congress got 27. Shiv Sena (UBT) won 6 seats,
Janvikas Sena (backed by Congress) got 3, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi-2, AIMIM-1, BSP-1 and Shiv Sena (Shinde)-1. Independent candidates won two seats in the 66-member House.
A majority of 34 corporators will be required to form the governing body. However, While the Congress is the single largest party in the House, it is still shy of some corporators to make the cut. And the party’s internal dispute at local level has risen the hopes of other contenders. Senior BJP leader and MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar appears confident that BJP would form the governing body.
Meanwhile, corporators from Janvikas Sena (3-seats) have objection on a rebel Congress corporators who won the election and now Congres is likely to give him major responsiblity in the governing body. The two top Mayoral candidates from Congress party are Sangeeta Amrutkar, former Mayor, and Sangeeta Bhoyar. However, discussion of senior leaders are still in progress with MPCC office-bearers including Sapkal, at Nagpur. It may be mentioned here that in Congress camp, the conflict between MLA Vijay Wadettiwar and MP Pratibha Dhanorkar is said to have been resolved in the presence of MPCC President Harshwardhan Sapkal.
