CHITRAKOOT: Two men loot jewellery worth to Rs 10L from gold merchant in broad daylight

TWO unidentified men looted gold jewellery amounting to Rs 10 lakh from a gold merchant in the broad daylight at Kamta Mohalla area under the jurisdiction of Chitrakoot police station, on Tuesday. According to Chitrakoot police, jeweller Dinesh Soni, a resident of Kamta village, runs a jewellery shop near Patel Dharamshala. Around 2:30 pm, two youths arrived on a motorcycle, parked it outside the shop, and entered. They told the shopkeeper that they wanted to purchase jewellery for donation at Kamtanath Temple and asked to see a gold locket and silver eye ornament. While examining the ornaments, the accused sprayed a narcotic substance on Dinesh Soni and he lost his consciousness.
 
Taking advantage of the situation, they fled with a box containing gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 10 lakh. The shopkeeper regained consciousness after about half an hour and then informed the police. On receiving the information, Chitrakoot police reached the spot and started an investigation. It is suspected that the accused escaped towards the Uttar Pradesh border after committing the crime. SHO of Chitrakoot Police Station Girjashankar Vajpayee informed that CCTV footage from the crime scene and nearby areas, including MP-UP border routes is being examined to identify and apprehend the accused.
