CONCERNED :
over its operational challenges and capacity
issues with 20-fold surge in
patients footfall, Super
Speciality Hospital, runs within Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose
Medical College Hospital, now
seeks expansion to serve the
patients with it’s optimum efficiency.
The hospital currently operates beyond its intended capacity. Despite having an official
strength of 295 beds, the facility maintains an average of
around 350 admitted patients.
This over-extension has reportedly begun to impact the delivery of both direct and indirect
health services.
Dr Avadhesh Pratap Singh
Kushwaha, Director, Super
Speciality Hospital, told ‘The
Hitavada’ that the hospital
serves a significant portion of
the underprivileged population, with approximately 85%
of admitted patients benefiting
from Ayushman Bharat Yojana
(ABY) healthcare scheme.
Dr Kushwaha informed that
the construction works are
already started at Rewa Super
Speciality Hospital for expansion.
“The proposed extension
aims to build upon the hospital’s current specialized offerings, which already include kidney transplants and cadaveric
organ donation programs.
Established in 2019 as Madhya
Pradesh’s first super-speciality
hospital, it began with 6 departments and currently operates
with 10.
The extension is requested to
accommodate rising patient
numbers and to introduce liver and heart transplant services. If approved, the expansion
will facilitate the introduction
of new departments and
advanced medical procedures,
specifically liver and heart
transplants. It will benefit the
people of Mahakoshal region
who no longer will need to travel to distant metropolitan cities
for advanced medical interventions”, added Dr. Kushwaha.
He further informed that the
administration has already
submitted a proposal to the
Union Health Minister, JP
Nadda during his recent visit
in the city, requesting a significant extension of the Super
Speciality Hospital Jabalpur.
The request follows a marked
increase in healthcare demand
in the Mahakoshal region, with
patient numbers reportedly
growing twentyfold since the
facility’s inception in 2019.
It may be mentioned that the
statistical data released by the
Super Speciality administration, indicates towards a dramatic rise in patients footfall
over the last six years.
In 2019, the hospital recorded 9,415 Outpatient
Department (OPD) visits which
reached 1,26,532 by 2025.
Similarly, Inpatient
Department (IPD) admissions
rose from 1,032 to 20,422 during the same period. While the
number of surgeries also
increased from 345 in 2019 to
4,561 in 2025.
