In Prabhag No 29, in 2017, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won all four seats with Congress in second position. This time, it will have to face a tough fight as there was infighting within the party whereas Congress did not see rebellious elements. Of course the party’s stalwarts have taken care of this. But still, BJP has to move ahead cautiously. South Nagpur remained neglected as far as development works were concerned. Fadnavis-led BJP Government provided equal share to this area in terms of development. Despite development works, the BJP failed to project those. If it has to stand victorious in all prabhags, then it will have to project its own works done since 2014.

 

 

 

This prabhag is among those which favoured BJP strongly in 2017. Congress came second but the gap was big. BJP candidates earned the voting share upwards of 45% easily. The candidates who tasted defeat could barely reach 20-25%. Although it had a clean sweep in 2017, BJP may have a tough fight as it could not satisfy its own candidates plus Congress did not have any rebellion and fight within the party. In Prabhag 29, Swati Akhatkar, who did good work, was denied ticket by BJP. She expressed her disappointment and filed nominantion as an Independent. She withdrew later, but her supporters are not happy with the decision by the party. It may reflect in elections. 

 

 

The prabhag is a composition of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes, Muslims, OBCs, Open voters with a population of 62,343. The population of SC has a domination in this prabhag which is evident from the official figures. According to available data, the Prabhag has 8,041 SC voters and 4,315 Scheduled Tribe residents. The Prabhag covers Mhalgi Nagar, Mahatma Gandhi Nagar, Gajanan Nagar, Besa Power Station, Surveyer Society, Santoshi Mata Nagar, NMC colony, New Prerna Nagar, Suryoday Nagar, Sudarshan Nagar, Hudkeshwar Nagar, Narsala.

 

 

The civic issues are unresolved everywhere in city and Prabhag 29 is no different. The major problem the residents here are facing is of the bridge. The flyover is being constructed that reaches Besa Power station. It has created a lot of traffic congestion. No traffic police personnel have been deployed nor the builder has arranged any securitymen to control the traffic. Many people say that the road already was wide and there was no need of bridge to be constructed. The bridge construction has created fear among people that the contractor would cut the trees. The construction work has already damaged the water pipelines. To add to the woes of the people, the power department has started construction work in the Besa Power station leading to narrowing the road.
