Prabhag No 28 had a combination of two corporators of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and two of united Shiv Sena at the end of last term. The only two candidates of Shiv Sena (then United) won Nagpur Municipal Corporation polls in 2017 were from this prabhag. Now the Shiv Sena has divided into two--UBT and Shinde groups. Shiv Sena (Shinde) has an alliance with BJP while UBT group has again fielded Kishor Kumeria, the party’s district head and Mangala Gawre. In Prabhag 28, Shiv Sena (UBT) is divided as its District Chief Kishor Kumeria will fight with party’s city chief Nitin Tiwari. Kumeria fielded himself from the open category ward from where Tiwari has also filed nomination. This is likely to help the BJP candidate here and it can sweep the prabhag. Earlier, South Nagpur remained neglected as far as development works were concerned. But after 2014, the Fadnavis-led BJP Government provided equal share to this area in terms of development. Mohan Mate took an initiative and brought development. The bridges are being constructed to remove the congestion. Tajabad too is being developed where the tourists from outside are visiting.

Winds favour BJP

This is probably the only prabhag which supported BJP and Shiv Sena (the united one) equally. Congress could earn second position after BJP. In the ward where Shiv Sena won, it was BJP that stood second. This shows the dominance of BJP in this prabhag. Both the BJP candidates defeated their rivals comfortably. BJP’s Pintu alias Vijay Zalke secured 50.80% votes while his nearest rival could get 24.75% vote share. Rekha Sakore of BJP too had a vote share of 41.82% while the candidate Priti Kadam of Congress could garner the share of 24.75%. Kishor Kumeria of Shiv Sena also registered a comfortable victory.

SC, ST population dominates

The prabhag is a composition of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes, Muslims, Open, OBC voters along with Kunbi with a population of 59,456. The Prabhag covers Ramna Maroti Nagar, Harpur, Sutgirni, Kamgar Nagar, Ishwar Nagar, Pavansut Nagar, Chitnis Nagar, Dhanwantari Nagar, Dighori, Beldar Nagar, Tukdoji Nagar, Gadge Nagar, Diamond Nagar, Bhagyashri Nagar, Pandit Nagar, New Sahkar Nagar, Pragati Colony, Kirti Nagar.

Civic problems unresolved

The haphazard manner of construction work, water scarcity, road lying in bad condition for the last 25 years etc is a major concern here. The road leading to Ramna Maroti Nagar from Bada Tajabad is in a very bad condition. Shockingly, for the last 25 years, it remained as it is. After many people raised their voices, the MLA Mohan Mate swung into action. He promised that the road would be ready very soon. To add to the woes of the people, the sewage line gets frequently choked. Residents have to knock the doors of NMC due to larger civic issues like encroachment. In the small lanes the construction material is visible lying along roadside leading to traffic congestion. The authorities show dustbin to the complaints of the people.
