The uneven playground in Hanuman Nagar.

Prabhag No 31, is a stronghold of Bharatiya Janata Party as it won all four seats in 2017 polls. The Prabhag is a core of South Nagpur. Once it was a stronghold of Congress. But in last some years, BJP has been gaining more and more support. Deepak Chowdhari, the last time’s corporator has been denied ticket this time by BJP and it may make a dent in BJP’s fortune. Shakti Thakur too had been working hard with his supporters who too did not get ticket. Also, the prabhag is close to Mahal Sangh building. In Mahal, Ninad Dixit, a young candidate from RSS family is contesting election as a candidate of common citizens. Kunal Padole, another active member of Teli community, has been initiating employment schemes to promote BJP among youngsters, too, is disappointed as he was denied ticket in Prabhag 32. These factors may have impact in Prabhag 31. Will the development works help BJP this time or the resentment within party as it replaced last year’s winning candidates, would have an impact remains to be seen.
BJP’s stronghold
The Prabhag has the dominance of Bharatiya Janata Party. But one can’t ignore the fight put up by Congress candidates in 2017 though it came second. Except Ward C, where Shital Kamde of BJP defeated Neeta Thakre of Congress by a solid margin. Kamde’s vote share was also the double than that of Thakre. In other wards, the winning margin of the BJP candidates was not solid. Although it had a clean sweep, BJP had to face neck-n-neck fight from Congress. In Prabhag 31 D, the BJP’s candidate Deepak Chowdhari defeated his nearest rival Rajkumar Nagulwar of NCP. Surprisingly, this time BJP denied ticket to Chowdhari. Now Chowdhari is unlikely to support campaign of BJP candidates.
Dominance of SC, ST
The Prabhag is a composition of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes voters along with Muslims, Christians, Kunbi with a population of 64,092. The population of SC is dominant in the Prabhag which is evident from the official figures. According to available data, the Prabhag has a good 9,405 SC voters.
The Prabhag covers Hanuman Nagar, Chandan Nagar, Vakilpeth, Hajare wadi, Bajrang Complex, Reshimbag, Nagomali Layout, Reshimbag ground, Hedgewar Bhavan, Budhwar Bajar, Ishwar Deshmukh Sharirik Shikshan Sanstha, Vima Dawakhana, Mohta College, Shiv Nagar, Nandanvan, Sangam theatre, Ganesh Nagar, Raghuji Nagar, Tukdoji Nagar, Somwari quarters, Kamgar Kalyan Kendra, State Insurance Workers Colony, Church, PTS quarters, Mahesh Colony, Gayatri Mandir, Gayatri Nagar slum, Keshavnagar Vidyalaya, Nagpur Homoeopathy College, Shivaji Vidyalaya.
Rampant construction activities
The areas like Hanuman Nagar, Reshimbag, Nandanvan, Sangam Theatre, Ganesh Nagar, Raghuji Nagar have less civic issues. But in some other areas people have a lot to tell about the civic problems. In front of Bajrang Complex, a flyover is being constructed since long where people daily face traffic congestion. Of course, the bridge once constructed surely ease the traffic but till then commuters have to travel under stress. People are facing water shortage issue as NMC failed to deliver water 24X7.
One Kunda Ramteke told ‘The Hitavada’ that the previous Government promised 24X7 water supply. It did not fulfill it. According to Ramteke, if not Government should at least streamline the water supply, improve drainage system. According to the corporators, amidst huge construction work it is not possible. To add to the woes of the people, the sewage line frequently gets choked.
