Staff Reporter:
THE Sanskardhani continued
to reel under severe cold and
dense fog for the second consecutive day on Sunday. Thick
fog covered the city from early
morning and persisted till
around 12.30 pm, sharply reducing visibility. Due to poor visibility, motorists were forced to
drive with headlights on even
during daytime.
The impact of western disturbance, coupled with cold
winds through the night led to
overcast skies and foggy conditions, affecting normal life.
The
cold wave caused significant
discomfort particularly for children, elderly and those suffering from illnesses. Being a weekend, movement on roads
remained lower, with most residents preferring to stay indoors
and venturing out only when
necessary.
Spokesman of Weather
Department informed that the
city’s maximum temperature on
Sunday remained below normal range.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 20.6
degree Celsius, which was
minus 3 degree to normal,
while the minimum temperature was recorded at 11 degrees
Celsius. Sunlight was visible only
after 12.30 pm.
Similar weather conditions
prevailed on Saturday as well,
when the sun appeared only
briefly and the city remained
enveloped in clouds and fog for
most of the day.
The Weather Department
has forecast foggy conditions
to continue for the next one to
two days. From Tuesday
onwards, the sky is expected
to clear completely. However,
with the clearing of clouds,
night temperatures are likely
to drop further, intensifying
the cold.
The Department has also
predicted that cold wave
conditions may prevail for 15
to 20 days in January. A prolonged spell of severe cold is
expected to begin in the second
week of the month and may
continue till the end of January.
Residents have been advised to
take adequate precautions
against the cold.
