MP advances 61 NH projects spanning 9,300 km to boost growth

MADHYA Pradesh is witnessing remarkable progress in road infrastructure projects, thanks to enhanced co-ordination between the Centre and the State Government. This was highlighted during a high-level review meeting chaired by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi, focusing on the implementation and quality of national highway projects in the state. The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav, and Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar.
 
The review revealed that 33 projects under NHAI and 28 under MoRTH-PWD are currently underway in Madhya Pradesh, totaling 61 national highway projects across the state. Key projects such as the Khandwa Bypass, Jabalpur Ring Road, Indore–Harda, and Rewa Bypass were discussed, and officials were given directions to ensure timely and quality execution. The state’s national highways currently span over 9,300 kilometres, serving as a strong foundation for safe transport, industrial growth, tourism, and regional development.
 
Union Minister Gadkari emphasised that all proposed road projects should be completed within the stipulated timeframe, keeping in mind Simhasth 2028, an international-level event. “Robust, safe, and seamless road connectivity is critical for such events,” he said, appreciating the state government’s efforts in ensuring satisfactory progress. The minister added that improved Centre-State coordination has given new momentum to the execution of road projects, enhancing efficiency and accountability.
 
Focus on Safety, Beautification, and Quality During the review, Gadkari examined all aspects of national highway development, including beautification, bridge and culvert construction, and blackspot rectification. “Roads are not merely transportation channels; they are the backbone of regional development and public convenience,” he said, directing officials to prioritise accident-prone areas and take corrective action promptly. The minister also stressed that road construction quality should be the highest priority, with tree transplantation preferred over cutting and adherence to modern construction techniques.
 
Toll roads must meet quality standards, or strict action will be taken against operators failing to comply. Delhi review to ensure speed and quality: Chief Minister Dr Yadav CHIEF Minister Dr Yadav said that the review meeting would strengthen institutional coordination and ensure timely and high-quality implementation of projects. He noted that practical challenges such as land acquisition, environmental approvals, construction quality, and deadlines were addressed in the review, enabling projects to progress swiftly on the ground.
 
The CM added that a modern, secure road network is vital for economic growth, industrial development, tourism, and attracting investment. Strengthened national highways will not only ease transportation but also boost trade, logistics, agricultural marketing, and employment opportunities. The meeting also discussed future plans for expanding and modernising the highway network, aiming to maintain momentum in development, ensure safety, and improve infrastructure quality, supported by continued Centre-State co-operation.
