- 2.6-km concrete corridor with footpath and cycling track planned
- PWD sets September 2026 deadline for completion
Nagpur will soon see a major road infrastructure upgrade with the Public Works Department’s (PWD) National Highway Division undertaking a Rs 25-crore project connecting Rahate Colony Square to RBI Square. The 2.6-km stretch will be developed as a modern corridor aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
The project will feature a concrete road, along with a dedicated footpath and a separate cycling track, reflecting a move towards more organised and people-friendly road design.
The stretch is considered important as it connects residential areas with key commercial and institutional zones and witnesses heavy traffic throughout the day.
After speaking with Sanjeev Jagtap, Executive Engineer, it has been clarified that the project will terminate at RBI square, and not return to Rahate Colony square. Jagtap stated that the alignment has been finalised to ensure smoother traffic flow between the two major junctions and to reduce bottlenecks along the route. The work is being executed by the PWD (National Highway Division) and carries a completion deadline of September 2026. Officials said, the use of concrete will improve the road’s durability and lower maintenance requirements over time, while the pedestrian and cycling facilities will provide safer options for non-motorised commuters.
Urban planners believe the project will help streamline movement on a stretch that often faces peak-hour congestion. Residents have welcomed the development, but stressed the need for proper traffic diversion plans during the construction phase to minimise inconvenience.
Once completed, the Rahate Colony–RBI Square road is expected to significantly improve connectivity, safety and commuting comfort in this part of Nagpur.
