RAIPUR :
A POTENTIALLY fatal incident was averted at
Urkura railway station in Raipur after Station
Master Anand Upadhyay acted on the desperate
cries of two children and pulled their mother away
from the path of an approaching train.
According to information available, the woman
had arrived at the station with her two children.
She reportedly moved towards the track as a train
was approaching, alarming the children, who
began shouting for help.
Upadhyay was proceeding to perform signallingrelated duties for the movement of a down train
when he heard the children’s cries. Realising the
danger, he immediately ran towards the woman

Upadhyay can be seen rushing towards the platform edge
and intervening within moments, pulling the woman backwards and away from the track as the train approaches the
station. The timely intervention prevented the woman from
coming into the train’s path. The children’s immediate alarm
also proved crucial in drawing the Station Master’s attention to the unfolding emergency.
Railway authorities described Upadhyay’s prompt
response as an example of alertness and humanity while
on duty. His intervention, undertaken while he was engaged
in train-operation responsibilities, ensured that the situation did not culminate in a tragedy. The circumstances that
