KASHISH Bhagat and Manoj
Chavan of Nagpur claimed a
gold medal each during the
37th Western Zonal Junior
Group Athletics Championship
held in Goa.
Manoj, an athlete of Mission
Lakshvedh, won the gold medal
in the javelin
throw. In the
men’s Under20 throw event,
Manoj won the
yellow metal
by throwing
the spear a
whopping 63.06 metres. The silver medal went to Abhishek
Sharma of Madhya Pradesh with
51.35 metres and bronze went
to Kuldeepsinh Parmar of
Gujarat (46.89m).
Kashish of Khel Foundation
won the gold medal in the 400m
in the Under-20 girls’ category.
Kashish clocked 57.45 seconds
to win the top spot.
Chhattisgarh’s Tania Kewat won
the silver medal (58.84s) while
Goa’s Sherin Varghese won the
bronze (1.08.90s)
Kashish also won a gold
medal for Maharashtra in
4x100m relay. They crossed the
line in 54.06s.
The other members of the side were Darshan
Tiwade, Shreshta Shetty and
Shreyas Jadhav.
Kashish also helped
Maharashtra a silver in 4x100
mixed relay race with a timing
of 47.57 seconds.
The team consisted of
Kashish, Priya Nagaraj, Janvi
Waghmare and Shreshtha

District Athletics Association.
Kashish won her third medal,
a bronze, in the 200m race with
a time of 26.23s.
In the shot put, Abhimanyu
Kushwaha won a silver medal
with a throw of 16.99 metres.
Manoj received training from
NIS trainer Ishita Roy while
Kashish trains under Gajanan
Thakre.
