Staff Reporter :
GURANDI Bazaar, one of the
busiest commercial areas of
the city, is facing serious sanitation problems. Garbage
scattered across the market
area has raised questions
about the Jabalpur Municipal
Corporation’s cleanliness
arrangements.
The condition of the market is a cause for concern.
Plastic bags, food waste and
other garbage can be seen
lying along the roadside. The
waste has accumulated near
the boundary wall and around
vehicles parked in the area. The
foul smell adds to the problems faced by shopkeepers,
traders and visitors. People
have been forced to visit the
market and buy essential commodities amid such pathetic
condition.
The situation is particularly worrying on Sundays, when
the weekly market attracts a
large number of people.
Despite the heavy footfall,
proper cleaning arrangements
are lacking. The garbage scattered across the area also raises concerns about hygiene
and the risk of diseases.
The condition of Gurandi
market has raised a basic question: who is responsible for
maintaining cleanliness in
such a busy commercial area?
Is the problem due to the sanitation contractor, the sanitation supervisor or a lack of
proper monitoring by the JMC
administration?
Despite several complaints,
the sanitation situation
has failed to improve. The
piles of waste also raise questions about the regularity of
cleaning and the disposal of
garbage generated by the
weekly market.
The Swachh Bharat Mission
aims to promote cleanliness
and better sanitation in public places. However, the condition at Gurandi market
presents a different picture.
Traders and visitors need
a clean and hygienic
environment.
The civic body must ensure
regular cleaning, timely
garbage removal and effective
supervision. Fixing responsibility for the lapses is equally
important.
The major question remains
whether the municipal authorities will take concrete action
to improve sanitation at
Gurandi market or allow the
problem to continue.
