Barricades fail to curb chaos at manish nagar

Even cops admit that the arrangement is not yielding expected results

Poor planning on part of Maha Metro at Manish Nagar RoB-cum-flyover landing has ended up creating a permanent hassle for everyone. Even intervention to streamline traffic movement has become another reason for congestion at Manish Nagar, as additional barricades at the flyover landing failed to mitigate the daily chaos. Motorists continue to cut across lanes, take unauthorised U-turns and refuse to give way to oncoming vehicles, leaving the stretch increasingly chaotic. Even the traffic police admit that the arrangement is not yielding the expected results. The barricades were installed to prevent sudden merging of vehicles and reduce the risk of accidents at the fly-over landing in Manish Nagar. However, motorists continue to take shortcuts instead of following the designated route, defeating the very purpose of the arrangement.

Traffic police admits that the situation was comparatively less chaotic before the additional barricading, but traffic has now increased and the flyover frequently gets jammed. Vehicles trying to enter and exit adjoining roads block each other’s movement, while impatient two-wheeler riders attempt to squeeze through narrow gaps, worsening the bottleneck, particularly during peak hours. When ‘The Hitavada’ contacted PI Suresh Vasekar of Ajni Traffic Branch, admitted that the barricading was not yielding the expected results. “The barricades were installed for the safety of commuters, but people are not following the designated route.

The situation has become difficult to manage, so we have deployed two traffic personnel to regulate vehicle movement throughout the day,” he informed. The lack of discipline among road users has undermined the traffic arrangement. Instead of waiting for their turn, several motorists make sudden turns or cut across lanes, disrupting the movement of vehicles following the prescribed route. Such manoeuvres not only contribute to congestion but also increase the risk of collisions. The Manish Nagar flyover landing had earlier drawn complaints over confusing vehicle movement and the possibility of accidents. Following these concerns, the Traffic Branch barricaded near the flyover.

Dangling cable another safety concern

A cable dangling from above near the landing of flyover has emerged as an additional safety concern for commuters. The dangling cable poses a potential risk, particularly to two-wheeler riders passing through the stretch. The authorities need to address the hazard immediately to prevent any untoward incident and ensure commuter safety.

Barricading, a traffic management failure

The decision to replicate an arrangement reportedly suggested by some influencers has raised questions over whether proper traffic assessments were conducted before going for placement of barricades. Such measures should be taken after proper planning and not just randomly, feel citizens. With deployment of traffic cops to manage the congestion, hopefully the situation would improve. This highlights the need for practical, expert-led traffic solutions.
