The presence of Greater Flamingos in the Harfar-Pataud area of Gangrel Dam in Chhattisgarh has been documented in a research article published in the prestigious Newsletter for Birdwatchers, Volume 65, Number 5, covering September–October 2025. According to wildlife and bird enthusiast Anand Kumar Soni, the study recorded Greater Flamingo sightings in June 2025. Eight birds were spotted on June 26 and 27, while 11 were recorded on each of June 28 and 29. In another significant observation, seven flamingos were sighted in the Futahamuda area of Gangrel Dam in March 2026. The sightings are significant for understanding Chhattisgarh’s rich biodiversity and avian diversity. The presence of these birds highlights the potential of the Gangrel Dam region as a habitat for migratory birds and underscores the importance of protecting wetlands and other natural habitats.

The documentation also adds to the available scientific information on Greater Flamingo sightings in the state, highlighting the need for continued bird monitoring and conservation efforts. Expressing pleasure over the publication, the contributor said it was a matter of pride to have participated as a co-author of the research article.
