Civic authorities took note of bad road condition of the stretch at Omkar Nagar Square and same was repaired providing smooth riding experience to citizens. The development follows ‘The Hitavada’ report on September 28, it exposed the alarming condition of the square under the headline ‘Neglected and broken, Omkar Nagar Square’s potholes invite disaster.’ The report highlighted how the damaged paver block stretch touching the Inner Ring Road, which connects residential colonies and witnesses movement of heavy trucks, cars and two-wheelers throughout the day, had become a nightmare for commuters. The crater filled with loose gravel and debris occupied the entire turning radius, forcing drivers to brake suddenly or swerve at the last moment. Residents had claimed that minor accidents, resulting in bruises and injuries, had already been reported. Soon after the issue was raised, civic authorities initiated repair work in the affected area. During a spot visit on Monday, it was seen that the damaged patch has been levelled with concrete, bringing visible relief to commuters. “The potholes were deep enough to destabilise a vehicle instantly. Now after the patchwork, it is smooth to cross the square, especially during peak hours,” said Gayatri Gaikwad, a daily commuter. While repair has been completed, citizens have urged the authorities to conduct a quality audit of earlier works and undertake permanent resurfacing to ensure the stretch sustains heavy traffic and does not cave in again.
