City-based Solar Industries India Ltd’s subsidiary Solar Defence & Aerospace Limited (SDAL) on Tuesday executed largest supply order of 450 units of loitering munitions to Indian Army in a single batch. The consignment of loitering munitions - Nagastra 1R - was flagged off from the facility of the company located in Bazargaon on Amravati Road in presence of Founder and Chairman of Solar Industries India Limited Padma Shri Awardee Satyanarayan Nuwal; Rear Admiral Brijesh Vashishta (Retd); Executive Director, SDAL, Dr Manjit Singh, Director, R&D, SDAL; and others. The company had received the order for Nagastra 1R from Indian Army under emergency procurement after rigorous trials. Though four companies had participated in the technical trials in March 2025, only SDAL was able to demonstrate all operational parameters.

This version of Nagastra was configured on specific requirement of the Army for short range operations of kamikaze attack mode and option of abort and recovery. This indigenously developed system is a very cost effect solution without any compromise in accuracy and quality. Its system performance was evaluated along with multiple live trials for target hit accuracy. Loitering munitions are drone-based systems.

The drones carry the bombs as payloads, which are dropped after zeroing in on the target. As it hovers around until the target is fixed, it gets the name loitering munitions. The Nagastra-1R has full re-usability of the launcher systems. SDAL is seeing benchmarks with its range of loitering munitions systems. This supply being largest single lot of loitering munition by any manufacturer to Indian army, the company’s focus is set for further long term system deployments with the armed forces.
