As per ‘The Hitavada’ report on Oct 4, 2026, Totladoh Dam, the main source of water supply to Nagpur city, had only 527.57 Mcum against its designed live storage of 1016.93 Mcum i.e. 50.27%. In contrast, Gosikhurd Dam had 715.41 Mcum of live storage against its designed live storage of 740.17 Mcum i.e, 96.74%. Currently, Nagpur city receives 740 MLD of water daily.
Out of this 520 MLD is supplied through Pench-I, II, III and IV water treatment plants while 220 MLD is supplied through Kanhan water treatment plant. The present alarming storage in Totladoh dam has thrown a war time like situation for Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) as well as to citizens.
To meet the present water scarcity the State Govt/NMC Administration and the citizens have to gear up and devise measures to survive till the next monsoon season.
In the present context State Govt/NMC have a greater role while the citizens have to adapt to the judicious measures of water utilization. On part of Administration, the thinking should be for creating immediate connectivity from Gosikhurd dam to Kanhan Water storage and processing site.
The CityLine of ‘The Hitavada’ dated 13-10-2026 published the NMC proposal of strict action for misusing potable water.
The first task of NMC in the present water scarcity situation should be to focus on initiating and implementing pipeline connectivity from Mouda to Kanhan so as to make Gosikhurd dam as the alternate source of water to Nagpur city. Instead, it is focusing on water usage by citizens. Of course, the citizens are an important component of water crisis management.
It is the main redressal method of water crisis
management.
