One contractor removed, another given extension, NHAI tells High Court
The remaining work on the Nagpur-Katol National Highway will be completed by March 2027, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has assured the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court.
The assurance was given during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) concerning the pending road improvement work on the highway.
The Court was hearing the matter in connection with
compliance with its February 25, 2026, order.
Earlier, the NHAI had filed an affidavit on February 23, 2026. It stated that Defect Rectification Notices had been issued to Agrawal Global Infratech Private Limited and Joint-Stock Company Industrial Association ‘Vozrozhdenie’. The contractors were directed to complete the pending work within 60 days.
During Wednesday’s hearing, NHAI counsel Adv Anish Kathane informed the Court that Agrawal Global Infratech Private Limited had been granted an extension until December 31, 2026, to complete the remaining work.
However, the contract of M/s Joint-Stock Company Industrial Association ‘Vozrozhdenie’ has been terminated due to unsatisfactory progress.
According to the affidavit, NHAI will now complete the work assigned to the terminated contractor under its direct supervision. Adv Kathane assured the Court that the project would be completed by March 2027. Taking note of the NHAI’s assurance, the Court scheduled next hearing after March 2027. It also directed the authority to file a fresh affidavit detailing progress of the work and compliance with earlier orders. Adv Rohan Dhatrak represented petitioners.
