The Raipur Traffic Police Commissionerate has registered 4,082 cases of drunk driving so far in 2026 as part of its ongoing efforts to improve road safety and prevent accidents. The driving licences of 2,597 motorists caught driving under the influence have been suspended by the Transport Department following referrals from the traffic police. The traffic police has intensified checks at various locations across the city to identify motorists driving after consuming alcohol or other intoxicating substances. Officials have warned that drunk driving endangers not only the driver but also passengers, pedestrians and other road users.

According to the traffic police, action against offenders extends beyond on-the-spot enforcement, with cases also being referred to the Transport Department for licence suspension in accordance with the law. Of the 4,082 drunk driving cases registered this year, 2,597 were referred for suspension, and the department has suspended the licences in all these cases. The initiative aims to deter motorists from driving under the influence, promote compliance with traffic regulations and reduce the risk of road accidents. The traffic police has clarified that enforcement drives and legal action against drunk driving will continue. The Raipur Traffic Police Commissionerate has urged motorists not to drive after consuming alcohol, wear helmets while riding two-wheelers and use seat belts in fourwheelers. It has also appealed to citizens to follow traffic rules and encourage family members and acquaintances to avoid drunk driving.
