4.38 lakh voters were struck off in SIR purge; door-to-door verification till October 31, draft roll on November 12
In a major correction after the electoral roll purge, at least 71,000 voters have been re-added to Bhopal’s voters’ list out of around 4.50 lakh names deleted during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The district had recorded 4.38 lakh deletions, 20.64 per cent of its 21.25 lakh electorate, taking the count down to 16.87 lakh. Across Madhya Pradesh, the SIR led to removal of 34.25 lakh names.
To restore eligible voters, the Election Commission has started a Special Summary Revision. Nearly 2,900 Booth Level Officers are conducting door-to-door verification till October 31.
Officials held special camps on October 8-9 across all seven Assembly segments, Berasia, Huzur, Bhopal North, Bhopal Central, Narela, Govindpura and South-West, for on the spot verification of nearly 3.88 lakh deleted entries.
The draft electoral roll will be published on November 12. Claims and objections will be accepted till December 11, with the final roll scheduled for January 4, 2027.
In a key relief, 2003 records will not be mandatory for new enrolment. Voters are advised to verify their names in the draft list and apply via Form-6 if missing.
