The Jabalpur Municipal Corporation has approved a new cleaning system for the city from November 1. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Mayor-in-Council (MIC) chaired by Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh. The meeting also approved changes to the names of two major city squares and measures to provide relief to firecracker traders during the festive season.
The Mayor said the tender for cleaning and solid waste management received a strong response. A total of 35 bidders submitted online bids for work across the city’s 16 divisions. After technical evaluation, 17 bidders were found eligible, while 18 were rejected. The financial bids of the eligible bidders were opened on October 5, 2026.
Following the evaluation process, 15 agencies were shortlisted for empanelment. The tender process required a minimum service charge of 10 per cent.
Two bidders quoted rates below this limit and were found ineligible under the revised terms.
Under new system, division-wise committees will be formed to look after the work and monitor its implementation. The aim is to improve waste collection and cleaning in wards and streets.
The MIC also approved renaming two prominent squares. Allahabad Chowk in Civil Lines will now be called Viksit Bharat Sankalp Seva Chowk. Caravs Chowk will be renamed Ishwardas Rohani Chowk. The meeting also cleared proposals related to lease cases and measures to ease difficulties faced by firecracker traders during the festive season. Municipal Commissioner Ahirwar also attended the meeting.
