In a major digital push aimed at empowering visiting devotees, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has, for the very first time, rolled out a comprehensive civic guide booklet accessible directly via scannable QR codes.
Unveiled during the inauguration of the civic body’s central control cell near Sahityabhushan Annabhau Sathe Smarak on Sunday, the QR code system allows pilgrims arriving for the 70th Dhammachakra Pravartan Din celebrations to access instant, real-time information regarding municipal amenities and emergency services on their smartphones with a single scan.
The digital guide was formally launched in the presence of Deputy Mayor Leela Hathibed, Standing Committee Chairperson Shivani Dani-Wakhare, Municipal Commissioner Dr Vipin Itankar, Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Municipal Commissioner Milind Meshram, and other senior civic officials.
Displayed prominently across civic help desks, the QR-enabled handbook provides details of all field arrangements operational from Sunday evening until October 22.
The digital platform maps out 1,285 toilet seats installed across Deekshabhoomi and surrounding nodes including the Law College, PKV, and ITI campuses, Ambazari lake foot, and Untkhana grounds alongside 140 bath cubicles, 50 washbasins, and 120 public street taps. Devotees can also navigate transport facilities, including the 160 Aapli Bus electric buses running from Kachipura Chowk, as well as medical aid booths, ambulance locations, and emergency shelters across 48 requisitioned public and private buildings in case of unseasonal rain. The initiative bridges on-ground coordination with digital accessibility, backed by round-the-clock helpline monitoring.
NMC has issued emergency helpline numbers for the pilgrims: 0712-2220029 (Central Control Room, Annabhau Sathe Chowk), and 0712-2220030 (Fire and Emergency Cell).
