JAYS protest over suspended TI turns chaotic, woman allegedly slaps police official
Staff Reporter :
JAYS (Jai Adivasi Yuva Shakti) protest in Bhopal turned tense on Sunday after police stopped demonstrators marching towards the Chief Minister’s residence near Prakash Tarun Pushkar. A woman protester allegedly slapped a police constable, while scuffles also broke out with women officers and other personnel. Videos of the incident circulated on social media.
Protesters demand action under SC/ST Act: The protesters had gathered at Ambedkar Maidan demanding an FIR against
suspended Misrod police station in-charge Ratan Singh Parihar under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. They alleged that Parihar
used abusive language against tribal students during a
protest on
October 13 after they raised the slogan ‘Jai Johar’.
They argued that suspension alone was insufficient and sought legal action.
Police reviewing video: Additional Commissioner Shailendra Singh Chauhan said the officer had been suspended and a preliminary inquiry ordered after the earlier complaint. He said police had also taken note of the video showing a woman allegedly slapping a head constable. Further action will be based on the inquiry findings and verification of the incident.
Protesters taken away: Police later put the demonstrators on buses and took them from Ambedkar Park to Kajlikheda.
