Civic authorities have restored streetlights at Wanjari Nagar Water Tank Square and adjoining Ajni stretches, bringing relief to citizens who were forced to commute in the dark for over a month. During a spot visit on Sunday night, it was seen that the entire stretch is now brightly illuminated.
Now, high-mast streetlights at the Square are glowing. The development follows ‘The Hitavada’ report ‘Darkness rules Ajni-Wanjari Nagar stretches: Defunct signals, non-working streetlights add to risk’ published on September 16, which exposed blackout on the stretch.
The report had highlighted how three key stretches Railway Men’s School Square to Wanjari Nagar Water Tank Road, Ajni Railway PRS Office to Medical College Square, and Ajni Police Station to Rameshwari Road pluasnged into darkness after sunset. Non-functional streetlights had created black spots where potholes, dividers and squares were barely visible, turning the area into an accident-prone zone.
