A sandal left at the crime scene helped Khaparkheda Police solve a six-month-old murder case. Police have arrested Anwar alias Babu Altaf Shaikh, a resident of Tajabad, for the murder of Prashant Kumbhare. The murder took place at Kille Kolar on March 30. Prashant was killed, while his associate, Firoz Shaikh, was critically injured in the attack. Police had struggled to find clues as there was no CCTV footage available from the area. However, a sandal found at the spot proved crucial in the investigation.Investigating Officer Shoaib Khan learnt that Prashant and Firoz had a dispute with Babu, who lived in Tajabad.

Police then made inquiries in the area and found that the sandal recovered from the crime scene belonged to him. Babu had gone missing after the incident. This raised the police’s suspicion. A search was launched to trace him. Police eventually caught him after he returned to Tajabad. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to the crime and revealed that he had carried out the attack with the help of an accomplice. According to the investigation, Babu held a grudge against Prashant and Firoz. He allegedly planned to bring the two men to Kille Kolar before attacking them. The arrest has helped police make a breakthrough in the case after six months of investigation. Further investigation is underway.
