THE Jabalpur Municipal
Corporation (JMC) has secured
second place in the country
for safety standards for sanitation workers. The civic body
is now working to achieve the
first position.
A programme was organised
to honour sanitation workers
engaged in sewer and septic
tank cleaning. Their health
check-ups were also
conducted and benefits under
various Government schemes
were distributed.
During the programme,
certificates and cards were distributed to 243 sanitation workers, providing them free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh. The facility will also provide financial
support to their families during
serious illnesses.
Under the NAMASTE scheme,
the workers were linked with
Ayushman Bharat and the State
health insurance scheme. They
were also provided medicines
and safety kits after health
check-ups.
The civic body will send workers for technical training to
ensure safer and mechanised
sewer and septic tank cleaning.
They will be trained to use modern machines, safety equipment
and PPE kits.
Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh
said the safety, health and dignity of sanitation workers
remain a priority for the civic
body. A large number of public
representatives and senior officials were also present.
