Nine students injured after school van collides with car in Jabalpur

A SEVERE collision between a school van carrying children and a car took place on Subhash Nagar Garha-Purwa Road in Jabalpur on Thursday morning, resulting in minor to serious injuries to at least 9 students from Dhanwantri Nagar branch of British Fort English School. The intense impact caused panic in entire area, prompting local bystanders to launch an emergency rescue operation. The vehicle involved in the accident was a school van (registration number MP 20 BA 5517) carrying the students from Classes 3 to 5 of the School. The highimpact head-on collision severely crushed the driver’s side of the school van and heavily damaged the oncoming car. Local residents acted quickly to rescue the children trapped inside the crumpled vehicle. Soon after getting the information, Police teams from Dhanvantari Nagar Police reached the spot. Meanwhile, local citizens arranged ambulances to rush the injured children to Medical Hospital. Anxious parents and relatives rushed to the hospital after being informed by eyewitnesses, who retrieved emergency contact numbers from the children. Medical College authorities confirmed that as many as 9 children sustained injuries including bleeding from different body parts.
 
Meanwhile, Collector, Raghavendra Singh and other administrative and police officials reached Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital where the children were admitted. They interacted with the injured children and inquired the on-duty doctors about the health condition of children and the line of treatment. Collector informed that out of 9 students who received injuries 1 was discharged while remaining 8 have been kept under medical supervision. The injuries were not fatal but the children were suffering from trauma. Superintendent, Dr. Arvind Sharma said that overall 9 children were shifted to Medical Hospital. One took immediate discharge after treatment. Meanwhile, 8 have been kept under observation, though they have no serious injuries as they already underwent CT scan and other diagnosis. One child has jaw fracture and already been administered treatment, however he will remain in the hospital for couple of days. The remaining 7 children are completely fine and will be given discharge by Friday. Police authorities have impounded both vehicles involved in the crash and launched a comprehensive investigation to ascertain driver fault and legal liability. The accident has brought renewed scrutiny to the issue of overcrowding in school transport vans and raised concerns regarding safety compliance by school management and local administrative authorities.
