Council meeting on October 24 to consider 20-year service block lease, tighter security at Son Chiraiya hawkers’ corner

The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) council will reconsider two proposals that were stalled at its August 19 meeting, with revised conditions set to be tabled on October 24. The changes include a longer lease for the service block at the new civic headquarters and mandatory security arrangements at Son Chiraiya Hawkers’ Corner near a girls’ college. Service block lease extended to 10 years: The proposal seeks to lease the ground-floor service block at the new municipal headquarters to a financial institution through e-tender for 10 years, with an option to renew for another 10 years. The Mayor-in-Council (MIC) revised the earlier terms, citing concerns that a two-year lease would fail to attract bidders. The first-floor cafeteria is proposed to be leased for three years, with a possible three-year renewal. CCTV, guards mandatory at Son Chiraiya: The revised proposal for Son Chiraiya Hawkers’ Corner requires the operating agency to maintain functional CCTV cameras around the clock and deploy security guards on the premises and nearby. The lease would run for three years, with an option to renew for another three years. AMRUT 2.0 loan, New Market hall on agenda: The council will also consider a proposal to raise a loan of Rs 493.49 crore to meet the municipal corporation’s share under AMRUT 2.0. The MIC has approved the proposal and forwarded it to the council.Another item seeks to lease the hall on the fourth floor of New Market’s multilevel parking complex. The seven-point agenda also includes discussions on sanitation, drainage, waste management and civic amenities.
