Two-wheeler demand jumps 10–12%. Four-wheeler sales hold steady despite deficit rainfall

Bringing festive joy to the automobile sector, Nagpur District is set to witness the delivery of over 5,200 new vehicles on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra on Tuesday. Buyers across the district will visit various showrooms to take home around 4,000 two-wheelers and more than 1,200 four-wheelers, carrying forward the long-standing festive tradition of purchasing high-value assets on the auspicious day. Despite lingering concerns over deficit rainfall across the Vidarbha region, market sentiment remains remarkably resilient and positive among automobile dealers. Speaking to ‘The Hitavada’, Anuj Pande, President of the Vidarbha Automobile Dealers Association (VADA), expressed satisfaction with the current festive season performance.

He said that while four-wheeler deliveries have not recorded significant growth compared to the previous year, the overall market stability is a welcome outcome. “Dealers are relieved and pleased with the steady demand. Given the deficit rainfall and uncertain global economic factors, there were widespread fears that four-wheeler sales might take a hit this season,” Pande stated. He further recalled that the previous festive season had witnessed extraordinary enthusiasm and sales spikes, largely propelled by price cuts following GST rationalisation. On the two-wheeler front, the response has been noticeably stronger. Achal Gandhi, Vice -President of VADA, revealed that two-wheeler deliveries across the district will cross the 4,000-unit mark on Dussehra alone. Overall sales in this segment have grown by nearly 10 to 12 percent compared to the corresponding period last year. A standout trend this year is the dramatic shift toward high-end motorcycles.

Gandhi highlighted that the demand for premium bikes has more than doubled on a year-on-year basis. “Earlier, premium bikes accounted for barely 5 per cent of total two-wheeler sales. Today, that share has comfortably surpassed 10 per cent,” Gandhi added, underscoring evolving consumer preferences and rising aspirational buying in urban pockets. However, the festive momentum displays a clear contrast between urban and rural markets. Gandhi pointed out that buying enthusiasm in rural areas of the district has not matched the strong demand seen in urban centers. Deficit rainfall in agricultural belts has induced a slight reluctance among rural buyers, keeping overall growth somewhat modest. Despite these localised challenges, the delivery of over 5,200 vehicles on a single day reflects strong underlying demand, offering a welcome festive boost to Nagpur’s automobile dealers and the regional economy.
