The Crime Branch’s Unit-2 has arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly attacking an 82-year-old woman with a wooden rod at her home in Gaddigodam. The police identified him by analysing his walking style in CCTV footage from over 80 cameras. They also used AI tools and technical data during the investigation. The accused has been identified as Clement alias Rohit Eugene Pillay, a resident of Kirad Layout in Mankapur. The incident took place around 9.30 pm on October 16. The accused entered the house of Hilda Alexander Anthony, who was alone at the time, near Alex Mechanical Works in Gaddigodam.

He assaulted her with a wooden club and fled. Sadar police registered a case. Meanwhile, a team led by Police Inspector Shubhangi Deshmukh of Unit-2 conducted a parallel investigation under the guidance of DCP (Detection) Deepak Agrawal and ACP Vaibhav Jadhav. The team examined footage from more than 80 CCTV cameras. Gait analysis, aided by AI tools and technical data, helped the police identify and arrest the accused. During interrogation, the police linked the accused to five other criminal cases. Two cases were registered at Sadar police station, one at Mankapur and two at Gittikhadan. These cases involve theft, housebreaking, robbery and outraging the modesty of women, police said. The investigation also revealed that he frequently changed his clothes or disguise to avoid being identified by the police.
