The 67th Police Shahidi Diwas was observed at 6th Training Battalion of Special Armed Force (SAF) in Jabalpur on October 21, to honour police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation.
Additional Director General of Police, Jabalpur Zone, Pramod Verma, DIG Jabalpur Range Atul Singh, Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyay and Commandant of 6th Battalion Siddharth Chaudhary paid floral tributes by laying wreaths at Martyrs’ Memorial. On the arrival of ADG Pramod Verma, platoons of the district police force and the SAF presented a ceremonial salute.
Addressing the gathering, ADG Verma paid homage to 154 police personnel from across the country who were martyred while serving the nation. He also read out the names of nine Madhya Pradesh Police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty during 2025-26.
Verma said Police Martyrs’ Memorial Day was an occasion to salute those who made the supreme sacrifice while performing their duties.
Their courage, dedication and sacrifice continue to inspire police personnel to serve the nation with commitment and uphold the honour of the force.
He also honoured the families of the martyrs by presenting them with coconuts and shawls as a mark of respect and gratitude for the sacrifices made by
their loved ones. Police Martyrs’ Memorial Day is observed across India every year on October 21 in memory of ten Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who were killed in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in eastern Ladakh on October 21, 1959.
The CRPF patrol, deployed to safeguard the country's frontiers, came under attack by a numerically superior Chinese force. The ten personnel fought valiantly before laying down their lives, marking a significant chapter in the history of police service and sacrifice.
At a conference of Inspectors General of Police held in New Delhi in January 1960, it was decided that October 21 would be observed annually as Police Martyrs’ Memorial Day to honour police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the defence of the country's unity and integrity.
Officers from various government establishments, including the Vehicle Factory, Ordnance Factory, Gun Carriage Factory and Central Ordnance Depot, along with gazetted officers and personnel of the Sixth Battalion, attended the programme.
