Poor sanitation has become a problem in several parts of the city. Garbage piles, irregular waste collection and overflowing drains are causing trouble for residents and shopkeepers. People have raised concerns over the lack of cleaning in these areas and have urged the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation to take action.
At busy market areas, several spots have turned into an unofficial garbage dumping points. Damaged garbage handcarts, garbage dumps becomes the common scene in commercial areas. Stray cattle scatter the garbage across the road, causing a foul smell. Local residents said the problem had continued for a long time. They said the garbage and dirty surroundings are affecting people and creating health concerns.
The problem is also visible in the main markets. Garbage collection and street sweeping were reportedly not carried out in several areas, including Galgala, Bhartipur, the area near Galgala
Lal School and Khateekpura. Garbage remained scattered on roads, attracting stray animals searching for food. Shopkeepers said the waste is making it difficult to run their businesses and affecting customer visits. With Diwali approaching, they said the amount of household waste had increased and regular cleaning was needed.
Similarly, near Karamchan chowk an open drain chamber led to overflowing sewage water road.
Dirty water flowed in front of shops, causing inconvenience to shopkeepers and customers. Local people said garbage thrown into the open drain often blocked its flow. They added that they had also complained through the CM Helpline, but the problem remained unresolved.
Residents have urged the Municipal Corporation to ensure regular garbage collection and street sweeping, remove the damaged handcart, broken trash bins, clean the blocked drains and cover the open chambers. They said proper sanitation is necessary to prevent health problems and keep the city clean.
The complaints have raised questions about the city's cleaning arrangements, especially as Jabalpur is working to improve its position in the Swachh Survekshan.
