A tragic accident claimed the lives of a 55-year-old woman and her 23-year-old son after they came into contact with a high-tension power line while removing a banner from the roof of their house in Rampur Mandwa Basti under the jurisdiction of Gorakhpur police station on Sunday evening. Their 12-year-old nephew was also critically injured in the incident. According to Gorakhpur police, Sita Rajput and her son Kishan Rajput climbed upon the roof of their house to remove a banner. During the process, the iron rod holding the banner accidentally slipped and came into contact with a high-tension electricity line passing directly in front of the house.

 

The rod became electrically charged, proving fatal for the mother and son. Their nephew, Babu alias Riyan Rajput, also suffered electric shock and burn injuries. He was initially rushed to a private hospital before being shifted to the Medical College for further treatment. Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
