The redevelopment of Ajni Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme has gained significant pace, with major civil work in progress on both East and West sides of the station. On the East side the G+3 building is almost ready. The ticket counter on the ground floor has been completed, while finishing work and facade work is currently going on. This new terminal will provide direct entry to passengers from Eastern side of the station that would far easier to negotiate and hassle free.

The highlight of the project is the 72-metre wide elevated air-concourse. Girder launching work of the concourse is in advanced stage. As of 27 August 2026, heavy steel girders have been placed over the tracks. According to officials, Founding Level 1 of the concourse is complete. Now, slab work and roof launching work is underway. Once completed, the concourse will be 72m wide and will span across all platforms, serving as the main passenger circulation, waiting and holding area. Pawan Kumar Patil, Chief Project Officer, RLDA, said, “The 72m wide elevated concourse at Ajni is the heart of the redevelopment project. Founding Level 1 is complete and slab and roof launching is in progress. Once commissioned, it will integrate East and West sides and provide world-class amenities to passengers. Ajni will emerge as a major satellite terminal for Nagpur.”

At present, 3 platforms are operational, while work on 2+2 additional platforms is in progress. Train operations are being managed from the West side from Platform 1 and 2 to ensure uninterrupted services. Launching work on a portion of the West side is pending as the underground road (RUB) in front of Ajni station is under construction. After completion of the road work, the remaining launching will be executed. On the West side, a G+1 station building is also under construction. The building is being developed as a combined facility with Congress Nagar Metro Station, ensuring seamless integration between Indian Railways and Nagpur Metro for commuters. Once fully commissioned, Ajni will emerge as a satellite terminal for Nagpur with modern amenities, wider concourse, integrated Metro connectivity and direct access from both East and West sides.
