A diary recovered during a search at the house of drug kingpin Vishal alias Phalli Gupta on New Narsala Road in Indra Nagar could help the Crime Branch identify more drug smugglers and distributors operating in Nagpur. Police are examining the diary for contact details and other clues linked to the drug supply network.
The search was conducted in connection with the seizure of mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 1.54 crore. Officers also found three suspected fake Aadhaar cards, including one bearing the name of Gupta’s girlfriend and two tolas of gold jewellery in the form of bangles. According to police, Gupta had rented the first-floor premises on September 1.
Investigators are now examining the diary to establish the identities of people linked to him and their possible roles in the drug trade.
The entries could provide leads to local distributors and help police trace the network’s links with suppliers outside Maharashtra. The search was conducted under the guidance of DCP (Detection) Deepak Agrawal and ACP (Crime) Vaibhav Jadhav.
Senior PI Vinayak Golhe and his team carried out the operation. The Crime Branch recently seized MD worth Rs 1.54 crore from a rented flat at Vijaya Apartments in Narendra Nagar and arrested five persons.
Police suspect Gupta (24), operated the network from outside Maharashtra through WhatsApp calls. Shubham alias Doraemon Dilip Narwariya had reportedly rented the flat on Gupta’s instructions.
The gang allegedly received drug consignments from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, packed them into smaller quantities and supplied them to distributors in Nagpur.
