The traffic police’s experimental barricading at Ajni Square has delivered an immediate breakthrough by decisively cracking down on peak-hour wrong-side driving. For years, reckless motorists cutting across traffic from the wrong side near Ajni Square brought vehicular movement to an abrupt standstill.
However, fresh barricades erected have firmly sealed these unauthorised entry points, eliminating illegal maneuvers and restoring strict lane discipline on the stretch. Under ongoing trial run, traffic authorities have barricaded the median at Ajni Square to ensure uninterrupted, signal-free vehicular transit without red light halts.
On the other hand, the department routinely barricade the Kriplani Square, along with Rahate Colony Square signal.
Under the proposed long-term blueprint, if the current trial is adopted permanently, authorities will discontinue barricading at Rahate Colony Square.
According to traffic personnel, if the trial run succeeds, then along the entire busy corridor connecting Janta Square to Ajni Square, only Ajni Square and Rahate Colony Square will remain barricaded to facilitate continuous transit.
However, while eliminating signal halts at Ajni Square, it has streamlined localised traffic movement. Commuters point out that it has simply displaced the vehicular bottleneck rather than resolving it.
“By allowing vehicles to breeze past Ajni Square without a halt, the experiment has shifted primary congestion point straight onto Kriplani Square,” Adv Pranay Ajmera, a daily commuter said.
Because multiple feeder roads converge before Ajni Square, the cumulative vehicular volume multiplies rapidly as it surges ahead. Deprived of a metering signal at Ajni Square to break the rush, thousands of vehicles arrive unchecked at Kriplani Square.
Commuters have urged the traffic police department to
fine-tune the signal synchronisation at Kriplani Square before rolling out the arrangement
permanently.
