The Traffic Police have introduced technology-driven surveillance and strengthened traffic management arrangements across the city ahead of Dhanteras, Diwali and Chhath, aiming to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians during the festive rush. Under the ‘Trinetra’ surveillance system, the police are integrating cameras installed under the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS), real-time traffic updates from Google Maps and drone surveillance to monitor congestion across major markets, arterial roads and busy intersections.

The ITMS control room is monitoring traffic movement through cameras installed at key intersections, while Google Maps data helps identify congestion and slow-moving traffic. Drones are also being deployed over crowded commercial areas, narrow market lanes and major roads to identify bottlenecks and parking-related obstructions. As soon as congestion is detected, the control room alerts the concerned sector in-charge, patrolling personnel and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) through wireless communication. Teams are then dispatched to the affected locations to regulate vehicle movement and clear bottlenecks.

The police will also use camera footage and drone surveillance to identify vehicles parked in no-parking zones or in a manner that obstructs traffic. Such vehicles may be issued challans or removed using cranes, as required. Additional traffic personnel have been deployed around major commercial areas, while cranes and patrol vehicles are being kept on the move to deal with breakdowns and abandoned vehicles. The Traffic Police have appealed to residents and shopkeepers to cooperate with the arrangements by using designated parking spaces and avoiding parking on main roads or in front of shops. Officials said such obstructions can worsen congestion during peak shopping hours. Citizens have been urged to follow traffic rules and comply with instructions from traffic personnel to help keep roads accessible
