Retired IAS Agrawal’s murder probe finds Rs 5 crore dispute

THE murder investigation of retired IAS officer Rakesh Agrawal has uncovered two fraud cases involving alleged losses of around Rs 5 crore. Agrawal had filed a case against Ajit Patni over an alleged Rs 1 crore fraud and another against Awadhesh Dubey involving Rs 4 crore. Both matters are pending in court. Financial disputes being probed: Police are examining Agrawal’s financial transactions, investments and links with people associated with the cases to determine whether any financial dispute was connected to the murder. His wife, Nishi, recorded her statement with investigators on Friday.
 
Police are also analysing his communications and contacts over the past year. Agrawal’s phone recovered in Agra: Police teams searching across four states recovered Agrawal’s smartphone from Agra. The youth found with the phone is being questioned. He allegedly told police that he found it lying on the road and later switched it on and used it. Varun’s family members questioned: Police continue to search for caretaker Varun Kumar, the main murder suspect, while questioning his father, sister, friends and acquaintances. Teams have conducted searches in Delhi, Punjab, Agra and western Uttar Pradesh. Son performs last rites: Agrawal’s last rites were performed at Bhadbhada Vishram Ghat on Friday. His son Siddhant, who arrived from the US, performed the last rites. Several IAS and IPS officers attended the funeral.
