Vehicle registration in Nagpur will now be done strictly according to the PIN code mentioned in the address of the vehicle owner. The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has corrected a glitch in the online registration portal that had earlier allowed some requests to be processed through a different RTO jurisdiction. Earlier, there were instances where dealers could submit requests for registration from one RTO jurisdiction to another. For example, a vehicle belonging to the Nagpur Rural jurisdiction of MH-40 could be processed through MH-49 (Nagpur East) or MH-31 (Nagpur Urban). This was possible because of a technical issue in the portal. The RTO has now corrected the glitch. The portal will check the PIN code mentioned in the owner’s address and route the registration request to the RTO having jurisdiction over that PIN code.

 

This means vehicle dealers will no longer be able to choose another RTO jurisdiction for registration based on convenience. The move is aimed at ensuring that vehicle registrations are handled by the correct RTO as per the owner’s address. Officials said the PIN code will be the key basis for determining the jurisdiction. Dealers and applicants will have to ensure that the address and PIN code entered in the registration application are correct. The correction has been made in the Vahan 4 portal.

 

The system will now strictly follow the jurisdiction linked to the PIN code instead of allowing registration requests to be processed through another RTO. The RTO has also directed dealers to submit applications through the prescribed online process and provide correct address details. The change is expected to bring greater clarity to the registration process and prevent applications from being routed to an incorrect RTO. The notification covers a wide spread of the city. PIN code 440001 covers Civil Lines, GPO, Mohan Nagar, Gandhi Chowk, High Court, Kasturchand Park, Palm Road, S V Road, Sadar and BCA Ground. PIN codes 440005 and 440006 cover Khapri, Sonegaon, LAD College, Seminary Hills, T B Tower, Veterinary College and Veterinary Hostel. PIN code 440007 covers Vayu Sainik Nagar, while 440010 covers Ambazari, Bajaj Nagar, Dharampeth, Ram Nagar, Shankar Nagar, Shivaji Nagar and Giripeth, among other areas. 440012 includes Borgaon and GIT College, while 440013 covers Ahbab Colony, Anant Nagar, Byramji Town, Cantonment, Friends Colony, Jafar Nagar, Katol Road, Mental Hospital and Police Line Takli. PIN code 440015 includes Gajanan Nagar, Hindustan Colony, Pragati Colony and Sai Mandir. 440016 covers the MIDC area, Electronic Zone, Hingna Road, Industrial Area and Lokmanya Nagar. 440019 includes CRPF Camp and Jaitala, while 440020 covers NEERI. Under 440022 come Congress Nagar, Dhantoli, Sitabuldi, Netaji Market, Laxmi Nagar and Trimurti Nagar. 440023 covers Daroda, Khadgaon Road, Wadi and Dawlameti, while 440025 includes Khamla, Party Layout and Shankar Nagar. The remaining notified areas include 440028 (MIDC), 440029 (NIT Campus), 440030 (Mankapur) and 440036 (Jaitala).
