Baij demands compensation

State Congress President :

Deepak Baij has demanded the State Government to carry out an assessment of crop damage caused by unseasonal rains, triggered by Cyclone Arnab, and the immediate announcement of compensation. In his statement, Baij said that the paddy crop has been completely destroyed by this unseasonal, natural calamity. “We explicitly demand that the government conduct an immediate survey to assess the extent of the damage. Furthermore, in areas where the crop has been entirely ruined, the government should announce a one-time compensation of Rs 70,518 per acre, calculated at a rate of Rs 3,358 per quintal for a yield of 21 quintals per acre,” said Baij.

Deepak Baij stated that the Kharif crops, especially paddy—have been completely destroyed due to adverse weather, pest infestations, and excessive rainfall. The State government has yet to conduct any concrete survey or assessment of the damage. This administrative apathy has only served to rub salt into the farmers’ wounds. The destruction of crops, the uncertainty surrounding paddy procurement, irregularities in the token and weighing process, and the stalled revenue registration, caused by the ongoing strike of ‘patwaris’- all prove that the State government is anti-farmer and anti-people, he added.
