The Jabalpur Municipal Corporation plans to introduce a numbering system for Chhath Puja platforms at Adhartal Lake. Devotees will be allotted places through tokens to ensure an orderly arrangement. Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh has directed officials to prepare a plan for the system. If it works well at Adhartal Lake, it may be introduced at other Chhath Puja sites across the city.
A delegation of the Jabalpur Uttar Pradesh-Bihar Mahasangh, led by convener Dr Rajesh Jaiswal met the Mayor. The members raised issues related to cleanliness, lighting and security at the ghats. They also sought a system to number the platforms and allot them through tokens.
The delegation informed the Mayor that platforms for Chhath Puja have been developed at Adhartal Lake.
Members showed photographs and videos of the
early construction. They demanded that permission for building the platforms be given only after Diwali.
The Mahasangh said platforms built too early could remain exposed for a long period and suffer damage. This could also affect the cleanliness of the worship sites.
The delegation also sought proper cleaning, lighting, water supply and security at all Chhath Puja sites. It requested boats with life jackets and proper arrangements for the movement of devotees.
They said Chhath Puja will be organised at around 18 locations in the city including Gwarighat, Tilwaraghat, Bhatghat, Adhartal Lake, Kanchanpur Lake, Hanumantal, Gulaua Lake and Shahi Talab in Sanjeevani Nagar.
